LDC
Card Encoded Systems for Health Care
The
patient's color visual image, profile information, confidential
medical and credit information and all plan data is stored
on the 2-D barcode. Information that is stored on the 2-D
barcode, but is not visible on the card includes the color
visual image of the plan member, and can include any confidential
information such as medical conditions, special care requirements
and credit card information. When the card (2-D barcode)
is scanned, a stream of ASCII data results, as such, it
is the equivalent of text entry on a keyboard. This makes
it relatively simple to integrate the complete patient profile
with a provider management system. The 2 dimensional bar
code (PDF 417) can contain more than one kilobyte of encoded
data and uses a LDC patented technique for compressing and
expanding color visual images.
